2023 Member Insights Report

Mission Innovation (MI) is an international collaborative initiative with the aim of accelerating the progress of clean energy technologies, while increasing their affordability and accessibility. The MI Member Insights Report, an annual compilation of clean energy research, development, and demonstration (RD&D) activities, is set to make its grand debut at COP28, hosted at the Saudi Arabia Pavilion. This report, with its primary aim to inform MI countries and a broader global audience, underscores the remarkable progress achieved by MI member nations over the past 12 months. It serves as a beacon guiding us towards our shared clean energy and climate goals.

The MI Member Survey, the cornerstone of this report, not only provides a comprehensive snapshot of government-led clean energy RD&D initiatives but also reinforces the importance of collaboration among MI countries and beyond. It facilitates knowledge sharing and the exchange of best practices, further strengthening our collective resolve to address the climate crisis.

The launch of the MI Member Insights Report at COP28 is an event of paramount significance, emphasizing the pivotal role of MI members in shaping the global clean energy landscape. It represents a unique opportunity to promote collaboration and showcase our commitment to advancing clean energy and climate goals.

Description of the Event

The MI Member Insights Report Launch at COP28 will shine a spotlight on the progress made by MI members in advancing clean energy and climate goals through collaboration. This event will delve into the four core elements of the report:

  1. Public RD&D Expenditure: MI members’ commitment to sustaining and enhancing public RD&D investments will be highlighted, along with their efforts to monitor progress and share updates, as facilitated by the MI Member Survey.
  2. Clean Energy Innovation Activities: MI members will present summaries of RD&D funding and programs initiated in the previous year, showcasing their dedication to driving clean energy innovation.
  3. International Collaborations: The event will feature insights into bilateral and multilateral collaborations among MI members, demonstrating the power of international cooperation and sharing best practices in priority areas.
  4. Involvement in Mission Innovation: MI members will describe their contributions and commitments within Mission Innovation, including their participation in Missions and other initiatives. They will share outcomes of these collaborations, reinforcing their collective commitment to fostering clean energy innovation.

Moreover, MI collaborates with the International Energy Agency (IEA) in the production of the report by incorporating their public RD&D data, which ensures a comprehensive assessment of clean energy innovation activities and reinforces the importance of international partnerships in driving progress.
