India Hosts Smart Grid Innovation Workshop

The Mission Innovation (MI) Smart Grid Challenge is holding the Second MI Smart Grid Innovation Workshop at the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) – Delhi on 16 -19 November 2017. The workshop will bring together international smart grid experts to address key research, development, and demonstration issues leading towards accelerated innovations through scaled-up government funding and enhanced participation of the private sector for faster deployment of smart grids.

The Smart Grid Innovation Challenge is a collaborative initiative co-lead by China, Italy, and India. The Challenge targets innovation and deployment of reliable, efficient, and affordable smart grid technologies at regional, distributional grids and microgrids in various geographical areas and to achieve the ability to accommodate 100% renewable based energy sources in existing power grid.

The event includes a technical meeting on 16 and 17 November, a public workshop on 18 November, and a technical tour of R&D labs and industries. In addition, the event will feature an exhibition to showcase the products and research outcomes related to the field of smart grid.

The workshop will be inaugurated by Hon’ble Minister of Science and Technology, Government of India, Shri. Y. S. Chowdary and Minister of Power, Government of India, Shri. R.K. Singh. The event is organized by the Department of Science and Technology (DST, India), Indian Institute of Technology-Roorkee (India), Indian Institute of Technology-Delhi (India), Institute of Electrical Engineering, Chinese Academy of Science (China), and Ricerca sul Sistema Energetico (RSE, Italy).

The First MI Smart Grid Innovation Workshop was held in Beijing on June 2017 as a side event of the Second MI Ministerial (MI-2).
