As part of the sixth MI Ministerial (MI-6), with the launch of Mission Innovation 2.0, Ministers committed to set-up a Technical Advisory Group (TAG) to provide an independent review and advisory function to help Mission Innovation governments maximise impact.
Now, the TAG has launched, and we are delighted to announce its members.
The TAG brings together 13 leading scientists and senior clean energy innovation professionals from around the world who were nominated by MI member countries and partner organisations. TAG members will use their combined technical, policy and commercial expertise, breadth of knowledge of the international clean energy innovation architecture, and deep experience in mission-oriented programming to provide recommendations to the MI Steering Committee and Ministers, supporting MI to reach its goals.
The TAG is chaired by Dr. Dean Haslip of Canada, with Dr. Michio Kondo of Japan serving as Vice Chair.

During the inaugural meeting on 7 February, members charted out how the group will function and discussed the aims of the TAG. The TAG’s role will include supporting MI’s flagship programmes: reviewing its seven Missions (which encompass many of the critical areas for climate innovation including clean hydrogen and zero-emission shipping) by providing independent insights to support them to reach their Goals, and supporting the development of MI’s Innovation Platform focused on maximizing the impact of public and private investments on climate tech innovation.
By providing advice on overall approach and best practice, the TAG will also support the work of MI on National Innovation Pathways in which MI Members will describe how they will enhance ambition to pioneer clean energy technologies and/or sectors to meet their climate and energy goals. Finally, TAG members will also provide technical input to support Mission Innovation members to identify innovation gaps in the global climate tech and clean energy landscape.
