Third Mission Innovation Ministerial (MI-3)

The 3rd Mission Innovation Ministerial (MI-3) takes place on 22-23 of May 2018 in Malmö, Sweden, back to back with the 9th Clean Energy Ministerial in Copenhagen, Denmark.  The two high-level ministerial meetings will be co-hosted by Denmark, Sweden, Norway, Finland, the Nordic Council of Ministers and European Commission (on behalf of the European Union). The cities of Malmö and Copenhagen are famously linked by the Öresund Bridge, chosen for the event as a powerful symbol of joining forces to accelerate the clean energy revolution.

Taking stock of progress

MI-3 marks an important stepping stone to assess and accelerate the progress of Mission Innovation. In 2015, Member countries committed to seeking to double their government investment in clean energy research and innovation over five years to 2021. They also committed to encouraging greater levels of private sector investment and partnership in transformative clean energy technologies.

After two and a half years, Mission Innovation Members will meet in Malmö to measure progress against the Mission Innovation’s Action Plan objectives, across work streams and Innovation Challenges. They will also assess the impact of international collaborations and private sector investments, and celebrate breakthroughs, ideas and innovators emerging from and supported by MI members’ RD&D investments.

Setting goals for the future

At MI-3, energy ministers, together with high-level representatives from the business and research community, will announce engagement in new areas, bringing clean energy innovation to our citizens, communities and cities.

The forum will also be an opportunity to present ambitious ideas Mission Innovation wants to pursue over the next three years, welcome new members to Mission Innovation and pave the way towards MI-4 in Vancouver and beyond.
