India has released two funding announcements worth US$5 million each to support innovations in Smart Grids and Off-Grid Access to Electricity—two of Mission Innovation’s seven Innovation Challenges.

The Smart Grids opportunity will sponsor innovations on components, systems, and technologies required to address the challenges of optimizing grids powered by up to 100% renewable energy and interoperable with centralized networks. The Off-Grid Access funding opportunity promotes innovations that will significantly reduce costs and increase performance of renewable power systems for individuals and communities with no or limited access to grid-connected power. For both opportunities, awardees receive financial support to accelerate design, research, development, standards, demonstrations, capacity building and/or technical assistance.

Institutions and industries of MI member countries are welcome to join partnerships with lead Indian institutes and organizations to carry out collaborative work. Applications must be received by 31 August 2017.
